Thieves break into Lichfield home using garden spade

Thieves used garden tools to force entry to a Lichfield home, where they then stole two cars belonging to the homeowners.

A spade was used to break into the house, located on Henderson Close. The occupants’ two cars, a Mini convertible and Honda CR-V, were subsequently stolen after the thieves found the keys.

The theft is believed to have taken place last Wednesday between 10.30 am and 2 pm.

DC Ed Rowe of Staffordshire Police said that a number of raids had taken place in Lichfield where garden implements had been used to break into houses.

He said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have any information on the whereabouts of these vehicles to come forward.

“It is possible these vehicles may have had the registration plates changed but the mini is quite distinctive so we want to hear from anyone who may have seen it in the area or the wider region.

“An extensive and detailed investigation into this burglary, along with others in the area, is ongoing and we are determined to catch those responsible.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Rowe at Staffordshire Police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
