Restaurants and Dining in Lichfield

Lichfield offers an excellent range of restaurants and dining establishments to suit all tastes and pockets. We’ve compiled a short list of some below!

The Larder

Location Bore St

The newcomer to the Lichfield dining scene has brought great ambition to the city’s dining scene in a finely refurbished property. This ambition is reflected in the ingredient driven menu and a must visit!

The Olive Tree

Location Greenhill

The Olive Tree has been part of the Lichfield restaurant scene but is now under new family management and proving to live above expectations with creative and clever cooking with great ingredients.

Chandlers Grande Brassierie

McKenzies

McKenzies
Located on Conduit Street, Lichfield, WS13 6JU
Website

The old Lichfield Corn Exchange is now the impressive setting for McKensies. Diners can still get the feel of the original room which has been splendidly refurbished sustaining the feel of the ancient structure. We have visited on a number of occasions as it is convenient for the centre of Lichfield and the Garrick Theatre. This is a relatively new ownership with quite traditional menu.

The Boat Inn Muckley Corner

A short way out of Lichfield the Boat Inn is certainly pushing out the boat with an innovative and creative menu. Well worth the visit.

Ego Mediterranean Restaurant

Location: New Minster House, Bird Street, Lichfield, WS13 6PW
Website

The location is brilliant looking over the Minster Pool with the three spires of Lichfield Cathedral reaching to the sky. It is a very airy, bright room with a good layout. The menu is classically Mediterranean and the food well executed at a reasonable price from the sharing boards to the pan roasted cod loin – good flavours with real cooking in the open kitchen.

Swinfen Hall Hotel
Location: Swinfen, Lichfield, WS14 9RE
Website

I have followed the Swinfen story for many years from the marvellous drama of how Patience Swinfen went through years of litigations that scandalised male dominated Victorian society to the war years and its life under the MOD and eventually the prison officers’ social club. The refurbishment is a miraculous story in its own right and those responsible deserve great credit. It has become a great venue for large local events and weddings and most of my dining experience has been at such events. Nonetheless the award winning kitchen produces well thought out dishes in a grand dining room and some wit as the ‘Right Pig’s Ear of it’ on the taster menu proves. Don’t miss the ballroom for a vision of Victorian splendour.

The Tudor of Lichfield

The Tudor of Lichfield

The Tudor of Lichfield
Location: Lichfield House, Bore Street, Lichfield, WS13 6LL
Website

The Tudor has a marvellous history and a great culinary tradition from the quirky chocolates in the little shop to the characterful rooms with traditional settings. Teacakes and a cup of Earl Grey will suffice and peer through the windows an imagine the Lichfield of Samuel Johnson.

The Ruby
Location: 29 St. John Street, Lichfield, WS13 6NU
Website

The Ruby is an institution in Lichfield providing the full range Chinese menu for many years. The room is intimate and varied and not a massive eating space. There are large tables for bigger parties and the staff will always accommodate you. A Chinese guest of ours approved of the dish selection and the quality of the cooking. Interestingly the “delivery” service manages to produce the same quality items on a regular basis.

Lal Bagh Indian Cuisine
Location: 9 Bird Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 6PW
Website

Has always been my first port of call for an Indian meal in Lichfield while the décor has changed and improved the cooking remains very consistent. Good quality ingredients well spiced and well presented combined with very attentive service makes it a sure fire hit with guests – take-away or delivery always very good.

The Owl @ Lichfield
Location: London Road, Lichfield, WS14 9QH
Facebook Page or Twitter Feed

The Shoulder of Mutton – in it’s former name – I believe has a long and varied history being in a “good location” on the way into the city. However it has gone through many mutations over the years most recently unsuccessful ones so we wish the best for the new owner. My first visit to the Owl was for a swift lunch with a colleague. The layout will be familiar to anyone who has previously been but it has had an interesting facelift although the Owl motif is a bit of a mystery. We ordered a ham and mustard sandwich but got two gammon slices with a poached egg some salad and chips. It was only their second day I think and the keen staff were unsure of the complexities of the computer system – but the food was very good if not what was ordered. As I said ‘work in progress’ and good luck. I must say I have had other promising reports of the dining room.

Thai Rainbow
Location: 15 Bird Street, Lichfield, WS13 6PW
Facebook Page

We have always had lovely food & service at the Thai Rainbow and last night was no exception. We were made very welcome, with pleasant attentive service. We were there quite early but the place was soon filling up and buzzing – a nice atmosphere. Our food was wonderful (the veggie set menu), and the Thai Red Curry was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten. Really excellent. Thanks to Cathy Brown for the review!

Damn Fine Cafe
Location: 16 Bird Street, Lichfield WS13 6PR
Facebook Page
We’ve just had a lovely lunch at Damn Fine Cafe, there’s a good (if limited) vegetarian selection and some gluten-free choices too. The food is fine, and the service really sets the place apart – friendly & efficient. We really like it in there. Thanks to Cathy Brown for the review!

Eastern Eye
Location: 19b Bird Street, Lichfield WS13 6PW
Website

Highly praised for its cuisine and managed by the somewhat eccentric Abdul – famed for producing the biggest curry in the world (or was it Naan?). Number one on Trip advisor which can’t be bad!

Ristorante Sorrento

Website

Italian in all ways but has mixed reviews.
