This year’s Lichfield Heritage Weekend will be a “royal occasion”, with a series of activities with a royal theme in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year. Amongst the many events there will be sword-making, a Crown Jewels trail, a princess and knight costume competition and other royal exhibitions. An old footpath alongside Lichfield Canal, long described as “impassable”, is set to be brought back into use in the coming days. As part of the ongoing work to restore the Lichfield Canal, the footpath is set to be cleared this weekend along with the canal’s channel. The National Memorial Arboretum is set for expansion The National Memorial Arboretum will soon commence work on a multi-million pound centre for remembrance. The proposals have been approved by Lichfield District Council, after several months of deliberations.
