Memorial to WWI railway dead moved to Lichfield

The First World War memorial remembering 3,719 men of the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) who died in service has been removed to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas near Lichfield.

Lichfield Heritage Weekend to have royal theme

"Lichfield Heritage Weekend"

This year’s Lichfield Heritage Weekend will be a “royal occasion”, with a series of activities with a royal theme in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

Amongst the many events there will be sword-making, a Crown Jewels trail, a princess and knight costume competition and other royal exhibitions.

Lichfield Canal’s ‘impassable’ footpath to be restored

An old footpath alongside Lichfield Canal, long described as “impassable”, is set to be brought back into use in the coming days.

As part of the ongoing work to restore the Lichfield Canal, the footpath is set to be cleared this weekend along with the canal’s channel. The work will be undertaken by the Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust and the Waterway Recovery Group.

The National Memorial Arboretum is set for expansion

The National Memorial Arboretum will soon commence work on a multi-million pound centre for remembrance.

The proposals have been approved by Lichfield District Council, after several months of deliberations.

The plans were originally introduced in 2009, and were submitted to the Council in May this year

Thieves break into Lichfield home using garden spade

Thieves used garden tools to force entry to a Lichfield home, where they then stole two cars belonging to the homeowners.

A spade was used to break into the house, located on Henderson Close. The occupants’ two cars, a Mini convertible and Honda CR-V, were subsequently stolen after the thieves found the keys.
